When Dice Games Go Bad! UnlimitedDistraction

Earlier on this week, a topic was made in the Off Topic Forum. It was like many other topics posted that day and simply read, '10 MILL 30 PERSON DICE GAME'. The originally normal looking dice game was hosted by Bootleggers player, hairyweenis. This may all seem to have been great for the lucky entrants, however, this was not to be the case when they found to their horror that the 29 of the 30 entrants were to be placed on the hitlist for a total of $10,000,000 each ($290,000,000 total). The winner of the dice had the privilege of being left alone without a bounty being put on his/her head. Some were not really affected as they had others willing to buy them off, however one still sits there on the hitlist with a chance at death still on the cards.

As each hitlist popped onto the hitlist, a trend began to appear. With each hitlist by hairyweenis himself, the message always ended the same way, "-Obscurity." I was intrigued and decided to bootmail hairyweenis on this event. This was relayed until I received a response from rigsv4 who spoke on the behalf of the underground crew, Obscurity, as the only other known member to the public (according to hairyweenis' profile).

He revealed that "this was just a small sample of our strength" and while "you might consider $300,000,000 on hitlists a lot, this is relatively small for us". He also mentioned, "we have much more than this spread across many accounts" and to acquire the money, rather than buying points with real money as some may do, "we simply bank our money everyday and let the compound interest do the work for us". When asked about this underground crew named Obscurity, he replied, "Obscurity is a relatively new underground crew made up of all old school players". The aim from the hitlists? "The main purpose of this was just to make it clear that no one is considered safe from our attacks." He further added, "While most underground crews will go after crews on the stats page or maybe casinos, every player is a potential target for us. Our bullets don’t discriminate after all". One question was still left to be answered, and this was whether we could see more of Obscurity in the future, to which he replied, "You will most definitely see more from Obscurity in the future, though I doubt you’ll see us on the stats page. Then again maybe our members already are". A lasting impression of this new crew letting us be reminded no-one is safe, not even the most heavily protected players, because even if you're in a crew, you may be already socializing with the secret band of players.

I also took the time to catch up with three of the unlucky losers of the dice game. These three were CheesyMash, the late OldSkoolOutlaw (now known as Osov2) , and ilovepokemon. I bootmailed each one about how they felt about the whole ordeal.

CheesyMash felt that the hitlists, "didn't bother him." He also added that this, "won't affect me in the future" and "will carry on joining if I find it's worthwhile." OldSkoolOutlaw, agreed with CheesyMash by stating, "I believe that joining a game is at your own risk. I will enter any future game and I doubt the fact I can be hitlisted by joining one." ilovepokemon however was "not too thrilled" he was hitlisted because he only "entered a dice game" but also said that, "I can't say that I don't find it funny." Unlike OldSkoolOutlaw and CheesyMash, for ilovepokemon it has "changed my view on dice games and I will be a little doubtful next time," however, "I will still enter them, it's just a game of chance".

For these three it seems it was not such a big deal with them all opting still to enter future dice games despite this type of game potentially happening again.

The topic was not all it seemed. Some were aggrieved at the whole event, others were pleased to have the game injected with high amounts of money to be gained. One thing is for sure though, there's a new underground crew in town, and they may be here to stay. But remember, next time you see a dice game in the Off Topic Forum, be sure to check the terms of the prize!
