A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words Doosy

Writer’s Note: I got bored with writing and took a break. Some friends came along and talked me into expressing my opinions for a change. I did this, enjoyed it and figured hey, why not write again? So here I am. To all of our readers, thanks for reading!

If a picture is really worth a thousand words, then the forums of Bootleggers are about to look more like a library to most of us. In the latest round of updates to the game, users are now able to post pictures and images in the forums. For those of you who have been here since the early days like me, this is a reminder of how things used to be. For those of you who haven’t been here quite so long, this update is nothing more then the addition of a feature once removed from the game.

The man responsible for this update, Sabin, was kind enough to answer some of my questions in regards to what is expected of users when posting pictures or images in the forums. “We used to have pics in the forums in the old days,” Sabin advised me, adding “I just brought them back.” A simple enough reason if any. Will players post excessive amounts of photos causing problem such as a lag, or even post obscene images that don’t belong in a game played by children? Those seemed to be the concerns that many players brought up in a forum discussion.

To help prevent the issue of a lag, Sabin made it clear that “There’s a limit of three displayed pics,” adding that “the rest become Image: links.” This limit will help to prevent a lag within Bootleggers. This isn’t permanent as Sabin explained that “I will probably be changing this, or making it optional, in the near future.” Please be advised that this limit only pertains to messages and the forums. For profiles, The Buzz or even the crew news page, there isn’t a limit.

As for that second concern, about obscene and inappropriate images being displayed, we shouldn’t have to worry much. “Keep in mind that images are subject to the TOS as well,” Sabin explained. Let's all keep the images clean and appropriate. This is easy enough right? With those two main concerns having been addressed, there isn’t much else to worry about. Well, ok that's not exactly true. It seems players have already found a flaw in this update.

It appears that if you post the link to the “logout” button inside of an image tag, it forces any player who is reading the thread to be logged out. Sure, it may seem annoying to some, or even a little funny to others, but I wouldn’t encourage you to test this one out. According to Air, one of our own Senior Moderators, “If anybody is found doing that, they will be banned.” Doesn’t seem like a fun idea anymore right?

To summarize all of this, please be responsible when posting images in the forums. You are encouraged to have fun, but in a responsible manner. If we can’t do that, this update will be taken away for a second time. If you have any question, concerns, or even find flaws within the feature, please use the Bootleggers Help Desk. To Sabin and Air, thanks for taking the time to answer questions related to this update.
