Bootlegging Update JamesDean

Over the years we have seen a lot of updates and changes. But the one that seemed the most important hadn't really seen a drastic makeover. Yes, I'm talking about bootlegging. In a game based off of bootlegging, it's only appropriate that it becomes a more used and more important feature. On Wednesday morning, we finally saw some changes in a very big update to the bootlegging feature.

Early that morning, before explanations were made about the feature, I spent a lot of money on Tequila. Kind of like I do on many weekends in real life, except it was more along the lines of $3,500,000 (heck of a party right?) this time. I traveled to do an OC, got busted by a sheriff, lost all of my tequila and went to jail for a rediculous amount of time. What the hell? Needless to say I was pissed off, had no money on hand and couldn't do an OC before work thanks to prison. By the time I got home, things had been changed even more and there was an official important thread in the game forum.

Instead of writing all about this, I'm going to take the easy road and just paste the info here directly courtesy of Sabin, which can be found at the following link:

Well, this place is called Bootleggers, and so it's only fitting that Bootlegging be a significant part of the game. Booze hasn't changed in four years, so it's about time that they get a face lift! Here is a summary of the changed and upgrades that have been made.

New Booze! There are four new types of booze: Moonshine, Gin, Tequila, and Cognac. All five of the original booze (beer, rum, whisky, vodka, and wine) are still available.

New Prices! The prices now range from very reasonable to quite expensive. There is now a booze run to fit every budget!

Supply/Demand! The Booze market is now affected by the ebb and tide of supply and demand. If booze is scarce in your state, it will cost more per crate. Also, there is some buying and selling going on in the background too, so if you don't like the price, just wait and it will change on its own!

Shopping Cart! You can buy up to ten of each booze in a single transaction! Clicking the Add button puts a crate into your shopping cart. Click an icon from the shopping cart to put it back. Click Clear to dump your cart, or click Check Out to finalize your purchase and pay for it.

Bulk Discount! As booze is bought from the vendor stock, the price might go up. You can save money by purchasing several crates at the same time. Just don't buy more than you can conceal!

Inventory! You can now carry as many crates as you can afford. However, the more you are carrying, the more likely you'll be caught (see Sheriff). Click to select what you want to sell or drop (green border will sell for cash, red border will drop). Tip: If you have cheap booze, it might be worth dropping to make room for more expensive and profitable crates.

Sheriff! The Sheriffs in each state have become aware that Bootleggers like you are smuggling booze across their state lines. There is a Deputy posted at every train station now. They aren't very bright, so you can usually sneak your crates past them; but if they catch you, they will take all of your booze and throw you in jail!

No Codes! Since the system has been reworked to remove any advantage that scripting might give, the Verification Code has been removed from Booze. In order to protect players from malicious cross-server scripting (XSS), a new passive security protocol was added instead (which will eventually find it's way into all features).

Mission 1! The mission has been recoded to work with the new Bootlegging system. Unfortunately, any booze you had acquired toward the mission may have been lost. The good news is that the Mission 1 Reward has been changed to fit the new prices of Wine as well as the new challenge it presents. Without going into much detail, I'll say that if you don't make a significant profit overall from the mission, it's your own fault.

DHTML! The new Bootlegging uses DHTML for the Shopping Cart and Inventory. This allows you to buy and sell multiple items without refreshing the page to confirm everything, like traditional buying and selling through merchant websites' online stores. However, DHTML requires JavaScript to run. We recommend Mozilla Firefox 2+, Microsoft Internet Explorer 7+, Apple Safari 3+, or Opera 9+, with JavaScript enabled. There is a plan for a non-script version of Bootlegging for players who can't or won't use a normal standard browser.

There is a lot more to this feature that has not been released or discovered yet. Also, being a new feature, some things will be under constant revision to make sure it's balanced (such as jail times, prices, etc). Please feel free to use this topic for discussion about Bootlegging, and also for reporting any bugs, issues, or questions about Bootlegging (if you have questions, bug, or issues with other features, please use the Help Desk).

Happy Gaming!
