Mission Improbable Afty

Without a doubt this round Missions are back with an added flair. In previous rounds they have been a bit static, boring and unchanging. This round though, missions are diverse, interesting and somewhat challenging. The first batch of missions showed players that missions were going to be different this round. The second batch proved this even more so. The first mission of the second batch has players team up to complete the same mission. Another mission in the second batch requires the player to be online for a constant amount of time to continue to trail someone for information.

It is unknown when a third batch will be released, but I’ve been asking players what they would like to see included in future mission updates. The results from the forum post resulted in a high count of the word ‘hooker’.

theOriginalCapone had this to say: “I want to see better paying missions once you get to the higher missions. But I would love to see more of the team up missions. I think that mission is a good way to for someone to go outside their normal box and meet new people.” I’m not sure if theOriginalCapone has completed the later missions yet, as one of those missions has a payout of $2,600,000, which is a huge amount compared to other missions. Teaming up for missions seems to open the door to a number of different mission ideas in my view.

iArkanto and XOS also fed off each other following iArkanto’s suggestion of a mission where you had accidentally killed a hooker and you had to dispose of the body. XOS suggested ways of killing someone buy accident, such as: “Maybe the mission would start with needing to shoot someone else but accidentally shoot the hooker by mistake?”

I’m not sure that shooting hookers is generally a great direction to go in. However, it does open up the idea of cover-ups. A mission where you had to kill someone and make it look like an accident would be very interesting. You could have to frame someone else for the murder. Or you could also go in the opposite direction to that, where you have been framed for a murder that you did not commit. You could have to steal the false evidence and “get rid of” witnesses.

After my forum thread dried up I decided to message the same people that I always message, with a few others thrown in.

Marcellus says: “it would ever happen but it would be quite interesting if a mission could include killing an actual BL player.” I agreed that it would probably never happen. But hey, I’m asking people what they want to see, that’s what Marcellus wants to see. He added: “Oh of course not it would cause chaos! But that would be what makes it so fun!”

letmelive almost echoed what Marcellus wanted. She suggested a mission involving killing an inactive scum account. But also said: “or a two player mission again, I liked that.” More multiplayer missions seem like a popular suggestion. I asked if she had any suggestions for possible two player missions but she couldn’t think of anything. She did say though that it shouldn’t be a kind of bank robbery or something like that, as it would be too similar to an organised crime.

Buzz writer, powerbear had this to say: “I like the missions, there's a lot more effort required than previous point click wait, especially the recover the car mission. I'd quite like to see Organised Crimes return to the mission set up.” I think powerbear raises some good points. The missions this round do require more effort, but that is a good thing. Sometimes if things are too easy then they are seen as being boring and not worth bothering with.

He also adds: “The missions set up I like as it gives new players a chance to get used to the various features in the game on their own without worrying about interacting with other people.” I agree with this too. Take the first mission as an example; it requires players to use the gym, crimes and also to travel from state to state. Missions as a basic tutorial are better than a block of text that serves as a tutorial.

GeneralLucas had some very interesting points, first off on the subject of the teamwork mission and the constant trailing mission: “I think he has to add more missions like that but with differing results. In fairness I’d like to see a mission where it’s possible to fail! And possible to succeed as well, like an OC mission but the % is pure random on whether it would be a success or not.” I think a mission where players can succeed and fail would be frustrating for some people, but it would also be quite interesting. If you get it wrong then you fail and have to try again.

He adds: “Another mission with booze running would be awesome as well but making it involve all the states instead of just 2 would be better as it would increase activity in all the states rather than just the select few we all tend to visit.” An all-state booze run would be pretty crazy, a marathon booze run if you will. I think it would be very time consuming, but it would indeed spread the activity around in the game.

His final point is: “I would like to see the payouts for missions increased as well (I know there was a 2.6mil one) based on the amount of time some of the missions take the payout just isn’t worth it.” This is an interesting idea that hasn’t been touched on before that I’ve seen. Mission payout should be proportionate to the amount of time it takes to complete, rather than the prestige of the mission itself.

Croccifixio went in another direction as well: “I think something crew-related. Like doing a favour to a crew or prove yourself to them in way certain way by doing a "crew mission". Something that's not similar to previous mission/missions we got now.” A crew mission would be quite nice. It would be an interesting way of testing that someone is committed to a crew if the player is somewhat unknown to the current members.

MrBlonde suggests an in-depth two player mission that involves busting and killing: “I reckon a twist on busting and killing missions, so one where you bust a friend who was set up by a rival group and then you have to kill half the members, like one in each state but the other guy takes half the states so 4 or 5 kills and a bust.” That would be quite a mission to split between two people. A mixture of busting and killing could prove popular.

Post below what missions you would like to see.
