There are a plethora of things I could write about Bootleggers that annoy me to no end, so much so, I could potentially write a book on this topic. This week, rather than going on about all the features that aren’t up yet, my focus is on the Bootleggers community and Organized Crimes.
Now from my personal experience, I find it easier to join an Organized Crime rather than lead one. It requires less effort and my inbox doesn’t get spammed with people asking for invites even after I’ve locked the topic. Lately, however, I’ve been trying my hand at leading an OC using the time tested means of posting a thread on the Classifieds and waiting to see who responds. Now here’s where my problem starts; for every OC I have started, there are at least two messages sent to me from players, who are usually low ranked, asking for me to pay for their equipment. Naturally, I do the polite thing and respond with obnoxious messages containing vast amounts of profanity.
My next issue is with the people who ask to join and demand a certain percentage. Normally, I just do the classic 25% for everyone involved, and that has worked well for me in the past. What I cannot for the life of me understand is why there are those who will demand to get 30%, 35%, and even 40%. Not to brag or anything, but I’ve been pulling in about $300,000 for my last few OC’s. Now with 25% each, that’s $75,000 for everyone. That’s enough to cover any equipment type, and still get a decent profit. Now understanding this, and then seeing all these people complaining about “Greedy OC leaders”, is a bit of an insult.
It can be argued about what percentages are “fair” based on the positions, but why should one person have to have a higher percentage at the expense of someone else having a lowered percentage. As for the prices of equipment being a factor, with the Explosives Expert being the most expensive, odds are that 25% that I offer will cover that and then some. I can’t speak for everyone, but I personally give everyone 25% regardless of rank, position, wealth, gender or sexual orientation. I believe that it’s fair and it would be rather hypocritical of me to give someone a higher percentage at the expense of someone else involved in the Organized Crime.
Even though I can sympathize with players not having money or wanting more money, I feel as though we’ve lost sight of what this feature is actually intended to do. It’s primary function is to have players work together to achieve a rather large amount of experience in a short amount of time in order to attain a higher rank. Anything else is just a bonus, which is what some people don’t seem to understand.
