Here I sit, after a wonderful evening walking and playing with my dog, wondering what to write about. I look around the game to see what’s going on, and other than the shootings this past week, Bootleggers is a rather quiet place. Then as I read through the Game Forum and deal with a couple crew issues, it comes to me. There are some total assholes running loose in the Game Forum.
I always believed that the Game Forum was a place you could go for game related help and advice if you required it, regardless if you are new or a seasoned player, and since the FAQ is nonexistent except for the two topics in the Game Forum (one white and one lime green in case you prefer colour) that makes this forum used for questions on a more regular basis. There are undeniably some helpful people around and cookies for them, however there are also a lot of total jerks out there. Why is it that some people feel the need to be rude, condescending, and just plain irritating when all that’s being asked for is a bit of help? It seems that if you get one guy who posts something completely uncalled for in a topic, you can bet on someone else coming along with a need to out asshole the first person and it just spreads from there like a bad disease. Even people I once had respect for are in on it all. It appears to me as if Bootleggers has its own special form of bullying. What the hell people, don’t you know that bullying is bad?
As players I would think most of us want the game to thrive and part of that is attracting new players. How can we expect any new players, who come to check the game out, will stick around when we have our own special form of bullying going on in the Game Forum? If I was new and had a question, one look at the twits in the Game Forum would likely make me not want to go there. No one wants to put themself in a situation knowing they could meet up with the Bootleggers bullies, twits and other irritants.
There is more than one way to be a bully and more than one way to flush the game we all enjoy down the toilet. If you are a bully, enable the bullies or are just being an unhelpful twit when it’s not called for, I think you should take yourself to the Off Topic Forum where you belong and leave the people seeking help or advice to someone who will actually provide some assistance. I don’t think that being a bully, twit or just a general irritant will get you any respect.
