I’m sure that most of the players on Bootleggers have been in a crew at some point. However, maybe you haven’t. Maybe you think that crews are simply groups of players that have collected together to become one big target for players to shoot at some point.
It’s been a long time since I was in a crew. I’m visiting The Chain Gang at the moment and it’s quite funny to see what I have been missing out on. Now, I could be wrong on this, not all crews could be like TCG, but being in the crew is a lot of fun.
The crew forum is a lot friendlier than the Game Forum or the Off Topic Forum. It is much easier to get help, should you need it. There are also a lot of crew games, in-crew bust competitions (well, TCG is the busting crew) and silly things like matches on FIFA between crew members. While I understand that crews aren’t for everyone, I think that many players dismiss crews because they either feel that they are targets to be shot, or that they are something political.
Since being in TCG I haven’t had any sight of politics. And looking at the stats page a few nights ago, the only people getting shot were crewless Dons. So who is actually being targeted these days? I do want this article to seem like I’m reviewing crews in general rather than just TCG. So generally speaking, I can understand the lure of a crew in comparison to playing alone. Sure you can have friends, message each other, OC together and have each other’s back. But there isn’t quite that connection to having a crew.
Another element of being in a crew is things like Crew Awards or Achievements. They may seem a little bit silly or somewhat pointless because they don’t really ‘give’ you anything. But it does give something extra to the game. I’m a big fan of player run/created things. It shows that players can improve the game themselves, not just sit around and say “make changes to this or that, BSF!” Achievements give you a reason to do something that you might not have necessarily done before.
I think that certain parts of the community do have preconceptions about what a crew involves. However, I think a lot of those preconceptions are either wrong or inaccurate. For a while I never really saw the appeal of a crew. It seemed like a bit of a waste of time. I had invites to a number of crews this round but it never really enticed me. Visiting TCG has shown me that crews do enhance the gameplay though. It’s a lot of fun to get involved with.
This maybe isn’t the longest article I’ve ever written, but I think it is one of the more worthwhile. If you’ve never had any interest in a crew, then I say have a closer look at one before turning away from it.
