I am delighted to welcome you back to another edition of FlameS’ Hot Topics. I have taken a few weeks off from writing this weekly column in order to write about other things that took my fancy.
If you haven’t read this column before It is simple in its mission; each week I pick a topic, related to Bootleggers to gather, condense and evaluate player opinions on.
In the past we have covered Organised Crimes, casino odds, updates and much more. This week however I have decided to discuss something that is becoming more widely used in round 7 than ever before; Boosting accounts.
In times of old the rules were broken much more frequently and in a much more serious way than they are now. The history of Bootleggers has seen it’s fair share of exploits being used to gather resources and a fair amount of cheaters to utilise them. In the past being in the literal firing line of these cheats gave no recompense for the fact you may have been shot by someone, that, without cheating would not have been able to do so.
In more recent times, and specifically in round 7, we have witnessed a growing trend of “Account Boosting”, this in Lehman’s terms means that should you be killed by a cheater, your new account will be given certain credentials and resources that your old account held.
The official rules on boosting illegal kills are;
• Players who are killed by an account that committed an illegal offense worth an immediate permanent ban (so no three strike offense) prior to the kills will be boosted on their new account.
• When boosted a player will receive from the killed account: experience, money, weapon, protection, bullets and gymnasium statistics.
Boosting will only occur if the appeal of the killer is declined.
I went in search of some people that had received a boost on their new account, to see what they thought of this service. The first player I contacted wished to remain anonymous. And when I asked them to give a brief statement, they replied thusly;
I think it is a great improvement on BL over previous times. To be killed after building an account for ages by someone exploiting is really unfair. Getting the rank back is ideal and a great way to help the unfair situation. There are some challenges, doing the missions again, no gym stats and lost bust stats for example, and dont get me started on criming . However it is far better to have the rank and those problems than to start all over again.

The second player I contacted was ErectileDysfunction AKA Nate. Nates’ killer was banned, so he received a boost. I asked him if he thought this service was a good one, to which he replied;
Well, I think when it's truly entitled it's good to have the means of giving players back what they lose unfairly. It's a bad feeling when you know you were killed by someone who cheated and was only able to kill you because he cheated. However, the mods may become too lenient with it if they're not careful. It used to be that you would only get your rank back if the person was breaking a rule that was used to kill you, now, it seems that anyone who died after their shooter is permanently banned is entitled to get their rank back.

Nate does make a fair point, should accounts be boosted if the means of cheating is not directly linked to killing? I made a hypothetical question up, and sent it to both players for their opinion. The hypothetical scenario was;
Say that someone was banned for auto refreshing, after killing you, all though auto refreshing is not intrinsically linked to killing do you think that rank should be reinstated, because doing this does increase your rank and cash faster, meaning you are more likely to be able to kill.

The replies that I received were;
any bannable offence should have the actions outlawed. So yep including autorefresh, and the money sent from that account should be withdrawn too.

I'd say no. Auto refreshing has no direct effect on those kills and gives you nothing you couldn't obtain without breaking the rules, you just get there a bit faster.

As you can see, two opposing views. So what then is my view? You all know me by now to be the diplomat in my writing style, and this occasion will be no different, I think offering to reinstate rank and certain other things is an important service to offer, as to whether it should be offered when the offence committed is not intrinsically linked to killing I am open to persuasion, and I will let you draw your own opinion, I would love to hear your opinions on this, so please feel free to share.
Thanks as always for taking the time to read my articles, if you have an opinion on anything I write, or an idea for a topic that I can discuss please don’t hesitate to get in contact with me.
