As everyone knows there is a popular sport for beggars, or even the rich, here within the Bootleggers community. All those lovely free give aways in the Off Topic Forum. These games vary widely from a simple dice game, to quiz games or even Bootleggers own version of Rock Paper and Scissors. They are a great way for all players to make some extra cash if they are feeling lucky, with almost no risk attached.
However there is also an added problem. The scam games. More often the host of the games is asking for a small contribution to host the game. Sometimes it's as little as ten thousand dollars but it has gone as high as five hundred thousand. Sending any amount of money to someone who has made a thread in a forum explaining they are giving away cash is always risky. How can you tell which games are a scam and which games are real? The truth is you just can't. All you can do is keep an eye open for who runs these games. The people that run several will post the winner, usually copy and paste the prize having been sent and the winner will usually thank them for hosting.
A great example of a scam recently was a game that Brutch hosted. He hosted a genuine Bust Competition in the game forum and gave away almost fifteen million dollars. He then went on to hit-list someone for one hundred million dollars. He was then banned shortly after. A scammer then signed up under the name BrutchV and claimed to be Brutch. He posted that “Whoever sends me an amount of money that I like will be given five hundred million dollars.” Most people would look at that and realize straight away its a scam. However he did, rather quickly, become a millionaire. His wealth fluctuated rapidly. It can only be speculated that the money he received was spent in gambling, otherwise it would have dropped much quicker. We at the Buzz would advise you, for this type of game, to be sure that the user is who they say they are. The real Brutch wouldn't have asked for any money for his give aways.
A perfect example of a real competition was a game that OllieV2 ran. As we are sure everyone is aware OllieV2, the creator and host of the Big Point Lottery, has to leave the community for a time. So he has been giving away tons of prizes all week. Congratulations to everyone who managed to win one. However on Sunday night OllieV2 run a game during which a lot of people accused him of being a scammer. He hid his Date of Birth somewhere in the game. Players had to run around various profiles and forums until someone found the location and told him where they found it. But the prize was a fantastic one million dollars. Yet after the game was finished a large percentage of the community started accusing OllieV2 of being a scammer and fixing the game before it started.
Is there a solution to this? Those honest players that hose fun games are often called a scammer by the trolls. The scammers who manage to persuade people to give up their hard earned cash almost always get paid. The only advice we at the Buzz can give you is to only send money to those you trust. When you see someone host a game day after day, or week after week, then they are probably trustworthy. If it is someone new, or with a similar name, be very careful before you give them anything or else you might just be out of luck! If it is a free game, and you don't win, be sporting! Why troll someone who gave up their time and money for you to have some fun?
