On October 10, 2012, Theodore Bagwell, a dangerous assassin, escaped out of Alcatraz, the prison in California. It was your job to locate Theodore! But how were you able to find him?! Don’t worry, in this article we’ll give you the solutions! But before we start, let’s have a look at the evidence:
Evidence – Part 1:
The police received a letter from Cosfield. He wrote that he’s willing to help to catch Theodore, but the police will have to figure out his riddles. He also wrote that he has a safe at the bank of New Jersey. In this safe there’s a hint, which will get the police one step closer to the hide-out of Theodore Bagwell. The police will be able to unlock the safe without a key, but they need a number of the safe. It’s a four-digit number. The police also noticed some weird characters on the back of the letter. They made a picture of it: http://i.imgur.com/jeDHp.png (clickable)
Evidence – Part 2:
The police received nine small packages. Each package contained a few bullets. The police made a summary of the packages and the amount of bullets:
Package 1 contained three bullets.
Package 2 contained three bullets.
Package 3 contained two bullets.
Package 4 contained three bullets.
Package 5 contained two bullets.
Package 6 contained one bullet.
Package 7 contained three bullets.
Package 8 contained three bullets.
Package 9 contained three bullets.
The police has no idea what to with the packages. They hope to find more information about it in the safe in New Jersey.
Part 1
The first question which you had to answer was; what’s the number of the safe in New Jersey? To answer this question you only needed part 1 of the evidence. The four signs are Japanese/Chinese characters. Translate them to ‘normal’ characters and you’ll get: 7919. That was the first part, way too easy! When you filled in the correct answer a new hint and question showed up:
The police went to safe number 7919 and noticed it wasn’t locked! The chief police officer opened the safe and noticed two things; a letter and a cellphone. The police grabbed the telephone and looked in the inbox. Unfortunately, no messages. However, the telephone contained a lot of contacts. The chief police officer took the phone in his pocket and had a look at the few characters on the letter:
‘‘Call him: 342662224’’
The chief police officer contacted you with the information he found and asked you to answer the following question:
Who do you need to call? The answer on that question is not a number, but a name. When you submit the correct answer a new hint will show up!
Part 2
The second part was a bit harder! You had to find the name of a contact. How?! You needed several things: the second part of the evidence, the new hint and an old school cell phone. The amount of bullets in each package, stands for the amount of pressing the button on your cell phone in the number ‘342662224’. Confusing?! Time for a summary:
Package 1: Three bullets. Number 3. Means: Press the button ‘3’ three times = F
Package 2: Three bullets. Number 4. Means: Press the button ‘4’ three times = I
Package 3: Two bullets. Number 2. Means: Press the button ‘2’ two times =B
Package 4: Three bullets. Number 6. Means: Press the button ‘6’ three times = O
Package 5: Two bullets. Number 6. Means: Press the button ‘6’ two times = N
Package 6: One bullet. Number 2. Means: Press the button ‘2’ one time = A
Package 7: Three bullets. Number 2. Means: Press the button ‘2’ three times = C
Package 8: Three bullets. Number 2. Means: Press the button ‘2’ three times = C
Package 9: Three bullets. Number 4. Means: Press the button ‘4’ three times = I
FIBONACCI, that’s the answer. Again, way too easy! When you filled in the correct answer a new hint and question showed up:
The chief police officer grabs the phone, which was located in the safe, and goes to the contact list. He searched for ‘Fibonacci’ and guess what? There was a contact named Fibonacci. The chief pressed on the call button. Twenty seconds the conversation started:
[The chief police officer]: Hello?
[?]: Good work officer
[The chief police officer]: Who are you and where is Theodore Bagwell?!
[?]: Calm down officer. You’re talking to Mr. Cosfield.
[The chief police officer]: Cosfield! Where is Theodore Bagwell? Tell us, before it’s too late!
[Cosfield]: You’re not in the position to make demands officer. I’ll tell you where Theodore Bagwell is, if you make sure I’m not a wanted man anymore.
[The chief police officer]: That’s ridiculous Cosfield, you know that!
[Cosfield]: If you want Theodore, that’s the only option.
[The chief police officer]: How do I know that you got Theodore? We want him alive!
[Cosfield]: You’ll have to trust me.
[The chief police officer]: Where is he?!
[Cosfield]: He’s located in a container at the docks of California.
[The chief police officer]: We don’t have the time to open all those bloody containers. Give us a location or the number of the container!
[Cosfield]: I’ll give you a hint to find the number of the container. You already found the 1,000th number. The number of the container is 10,000th number. Six digits. Good luck.
[The chief police officer]: What do you m..
The conversation ended. You need to find the number of the container. Theodore Bagwell is in there!
Part 3
The third part was a tricky one! You needed to find the number of the container. You needed the last sentence of Cosfield: ‘‘You already found the 1,000th number. The number of the container is 10,000th number. Six digits.’’ So what does that mean? What is the 1,000th number? Well, you remember the first code, 7919? It’s the 1,000th prime number. It was your job to find the 10,000th prime number. Just a little Google tricky and you got it! The correct answer was 104729. Let’s be honest, this giveaway was too simple! But who won the giveaway? You won't find that answer here...
