The New Bootcast? Poison

With the return of a large number of old players due to the reset, we have seen a lot of topics asking for the return of the old radio station. Ex-DJ Option believes he might have come up with the solution.

That solution, is a new unofficial radio station, called Crazy Beats that Option and fellow ex-DJ Genesai have set up to meet growing player demand. It seems similar in many ways to the station Mags set up after the collapse of the Bootcast, we caught up with Option to learn a little more about the enterprise.

Option confirmed our initial thoughts, saying “The new project Crazy Beats was a run through idea from Mood radio which Mags ran. He decided to stop as people were giving up on the game and barely tuning into the station when it was online.” This was a problem for a number of official features, never mind unofficial ones! He went on to say that “Now the game has reset, more players are back and a better game base is here. Maybe it's time for round 3 [of a Bootleggers radio station] and see where it goes.” We then asked Option what, apart from the return of players to the game, makes this more likely to be a success than it has been in the past, he told us that “In the time of me leaving BL and going to another game, I began my own radio station there and it took off superbly. We had several different DJ's, a DJ board and very frequent shows. It is still ongoing even though my job there is done; it has been passed down and shall continue successfully for a long time. I hope I can provide the skills to get Crazy Beats on track and as popular here.”

So the talent at the top of the station is there, and the experience, but what made Option think that the players really wanted a radio station back? “I know players miss it” He told the Buzz, explaining how there was no negative side to the idea, “Players who do not wish to listen in, simply do not visit. They will soon realise they have missed a lot of fun and different music and begin to tune in more often. Or they simply stay away.”

So, simply the Bootcast reborn we thought. Option, however, disagreed slightly. He told us that “I do not wish it to differ from the BootCast apart from there will be no administrator intervention. BootCast was limited for idea's due to admin's wanting it to be official rather than just going with the flow. Here, the sky's the limit.” Option didn’t seem all that keen on the feature becoming official again, but we spoke to Riserva to see if there was a chance of this happening. He told us that it was theoretically possible, adding “If you have a structured plan on why Bootcast should be reintroduced, I'd be happy to have a look through it and present it to BSF. It would also help, if you could provide me with the statistics of how many people listen to the show you have created.”

We told Option this and he said “My aim is to start small and go from there. Ive always followed the saying "walk before you can run". It is something I am aiming towards but we will not get there very fast. In saying that, it's not an issue for the Crazy Beat team because we have one thing the others didn't. A functional website. People can come there, talk to others in our IRC chatroom. Make requests via the site alongside many other things. Having the BC back into the game would be ideal for other players who do not check the forums, it would benefit the DJ's also but its not currently a priority. But as you asked, is it encouraging? Yes it is and it is nice to know that the staff assistance BC once lacked we now have.”

So there you have it, replacement to the Bootcast or not, we’ll have to wait and see. Radio station for Bootleggers, yes.
