The New CAPTCHA Sheesha

This week we had a couple of updates published, but one in particular seems to have divided the community in a way that none so far have done. It reached the point in which a couple of people have said that they are actually leaving Bootleggers for good.

This was the new CAPTCHA system, which was installed yesterday in order to update the security of the entire game. BSF2000 said the reason behind the change was because “The previous CAPTCHA wasn't effectively distinguishing between humans and bots.” For the record, CAPTCHA stands for Completely Automated Public Turing Test to tell Computers and Humans apart which, in basic terms, means a code you enter in order to complete an action and prove you are a human operator.

The Game Forum was filled with topics about this update with the most used topic getting over 300 replies. Most of these, however, were about how much players hated the update. Yet hidden in the complaints were several players saying that this was a benefit for the community as it will stop people using bots to get an advantage in the game. We at the Buzz strongly agree with what SemperFidelis said in the game forum, “In a few days, when it's up and running properly, most of the people complaining will like it. Just because you're not used to it, doesn't mean it's a terrible idea.” This may take a little while to get used to instead of the old 3 letter ones, but once you have it will be easy. Plus it will mean some interesting new things to add to your profile, aren't we all fed up of waiting for some funny three letter word to come up?

Aldarion stated in the game forum that, “This was a way bigger problem than you could ever imagine.” By problem he meant that players using bots had almost become an epidemic even if not everyone was aware of the fact. With the new CAPTCHA it gives a level playing field once again for all players, even if it is just for a few weeks until the scripters find a way around it. The bots that had been used up until this update could find ways around the previous system. However this is much more secure so we can all live in hope that it will work in the long term!

So with all the problems that the community seem to have with this update we at the Buzz thought that some tips might help everyone. If you are struggling to read what the CAPTCHA says then refresh the image until you can. This will not arouse suspicions from the Moderators as they understand that some are very difficult to read. If your answers keep being rejected the best way to stop this is to close all, but one, of the tabs which you are running Bootleggers on, refresh the image and try again. If this still doesn't work then try logging out of your account and singing back in. Then if your still having problems, and only after trying all of the above, contact the Help Desk but making sure that the fault is not at your end of the line as this will save a lot of time. Also please try and get used to this system as it benefits almost everyone in the game.
