March Madness Bust Competition TheWridged

2012-11-20: “You now have the ability to lead automated bust parties in the Game Forum and Crew Forum”. It has been 4 months already since we have been able to lead bust competitions automatically in the Game Forum. Since this very popular update has been introduced, an insane amount of bust competitions have been held. For some players this changed from a nice event to a rather annoying and boring repeat. This might have been the reason for HumpyMcHumperson to organize the March Madness Bust Comp; a bust competition spread over several days with a very unique setting.

This ‘one of a kind’ event got a lot of attention. It was very hard to know what was coming, told HumpyMcHumperson. “I haven't done nor seen such a type of bust competition so I didn't know what to expect, but I've received a lot of positive feedback from players so I'm happy about it”. Basically the competition had been divided in 5 rounds. Each round contained 1 on 1 match-ups between players that had ‘survived’ the previous round. The winner of the match-up would continue to the next round. HumpyMcHumperson thinks this was the reason of the competition’s success. “Before people didn't like going up against a busting machine like GoFuckYourBust for instance, but in the end a couple of players knocked out some really good busters, so anything could really happen in a 1 versus 1 match up”.

A knock-out bust competition gives the less experienced buster a better chance of winning the competition, but it also makes the competition boring for those that have been eliminated. “Unfortunately the amount of players participating decrease over the course of the competition, so I'm still thinking of ways to keep them involved for the next time I'll host the tournament”. The first round of the competition counted 32 participants. After each round only the participants was allowed to proceed to the next round, leaving the other half out. But this is not the only thing HumpyMcHumperson would like to see changed. “There are a couple of things that I will change about it. I will use a co-host next time so there will be more opportunities for the players to set a time that they start busting against their competitor for instance. I've seen some match-ups where some players weren't able to make it because of the time it was held. This way it will be more fair for everyone. There are a few other ideas that will make the competition better and more fun for everyone, but you will have to wait and see next time”.

Although the competition has been a real success, one thing did not meet HumpyMcHumperson's expectations. He had planned that the winners of each round would be awarded an equal amount of the pot. “ I had planned to donate 3.2 million each round, so each round you'd get a much higher amount of prize money as the amount of winners would shrink and would lead up to the winner of the final earning 3.2 million for that round alone.” Unfortunately HumpyMcHumperson got killed after the second round, resulting in the loss of the prize money. The pot consisted of donations afterwards.

Only one person was able to win all 5 rounds, and therefore win the March Madness Bust Competition; lml! In the grand final she managed to beat Terrapin with a very convincing score of 15-4! Lml is convinced that this way of holding a bust competition increases the interaction between the participants compared to other competitions. “This competition was not only competitive, but it’s also about friends cheering each other on. The semi-final and final was all JAIL so it was friendly competition where each player was happy with whoever won.” The last part is quite an achievement for JAIL. This shows that the crew hasn’t lost its busting skills and could very well still be the best busting crew on the statistics!

The competition has now been ended, and peace has returned in the game forum. Looking back to the past week, HumpyMcHumperson is glad how the competition turned out. “I'd like to thanks the players for participating! I had a lot of fun hosting the competition and I appreciate all the feedback I've gotten from them. Furthermore, I'd just like to say keep getting better at busting so you'll have a better chance of winning the next competition” he added. This has been the biggest bust competition in quite a while, and we at the Buzz will be looking forward to the second edition.
