Public Perceptions: Moderators Constans

Issue fifty-nine of the Bootleggers Buzz saw us publish an article entitled 'Public Perceptions: Help Desk Operators'. An article which was fueled by the communities views which were expressed through our designated Game Forum topic on the matter. This week we applied the same concept to Moderators. What do you think of the job they do? Do they all justify their green jackets? How could they improve the service they provide? All questions we wanted to hear your answers to and more.

After a mixed reaction to the topic regarding Help Desk Operators, it could be forgiven that surprise was felt, as the wider community supported the majority of the current Moderators who make up the Elite Guard. This does not however include the whole team, as Riserva and BSF2000 came in for what has become expected criticism, which may also be seen as ironic bearing in mind they are the single two users who are meant to lead the game and indeed the Elite Guard team. Obviously we can only speculate as to the work these two do in the all to often used term 'behind the scenes' however little is seen from either, of late at least, that has been conveyed to the users.

However in a move to focus on the positivism that most certainly formed the majority verdict in our designated Forum topic, we look to the praise given to Sky, Mika and Aldarion. Of course it can be seen that if not the rest, these members at least, display a care for the game that can only gain support from users as we constantly strive to gain the support of green and red jacketed people in our suggestions and bids to improve the game. Isolated incidents could of course be drawn from the history books where criticism may be brought forward, however as has been famously quoted in the past, you cannot please all of the people all of the time. The time and effort we see put in by these three at least is a show of what everyone would like to see from the more senior members of the Elite Guard.

But where art thou Riserva? A question which commonly arose from our investigations and the opinions we gathered. As Head Moderator of the game we all love, you would expect a more prominent activity on the game to be shown, if for nothing else but to lead the team of Moderators which he provide the 'Head' for. We can of course only speculate as to the reasons for his inactivity, which may be justified, however the length of it is proving difficult to understand for many. It may be suggested that following an increasingly talked of potential reset we will see an Elite Guard reshuffle as was seen in round 5, when Sabin was then promoted from Moderator to Administrator and several new Moderators also appointed. The circumstances for this reshuffle of course hinged on infamous hacking scandals and therefore were made for different reasons, but it is widely speculated that having access to the games code will soon see Sky following in the promotional footsteps of Sabin, in BSF2000's casual and all to often sparing bids to rescue his ailing game.

Whether reasons for activity are valid or not, there needs to be a degree of transparency in what is done and at the moment that is certainly lacking. A 'Head' Moderator can certainly not lead a team with whom he is not familiar and in regular contact with. Further to this, surely you cannot demand the respect of your team is you are seen to be contributing so little yourself. Perhaps you think a reshuffle is needed? Should Riserva be realistic and call it a day? Is he actually in prison serving a lengthy sentence for neglect? Should Sky, Mika or Aldarion take the next step? Do you think one of the current Help Desk Operators deserves a crack at a Moderator position? All things we would like to hear your opinions on! I would to take this opportunity to thank everyone who participated in the Game Forum topic and messaged me as well.
