This week in the game forum we saw a topic entitled “ShyGuy for MOD” which was started by AlexanderZuis in which he says that as ShyGuy is the best help desk operator around and also one of the most active he should be promoted to moderator. We think that this deserves to become the forum post of the week.
Rather then talk about the pro’s and con’s of this particular case, instead we felt that it would be more beneficial to talk about whether there should be more of a chance for the players of Bootleggers to have more of a say in the running of the game.
Firstly in favour of this idea, it would cause everyone on the site to have their say meaning that it could stop the feeling of apathy that is rife in the game at the moment along with hopefully getting rid of some of the anger towards the moderators that are already around.
However, a problem with this kind of voting is that all sorts of people could be voted into positions of power. Meaning that with large enough groups of people, which some crews have been known to reach, could sway the votes which could result in any moderators chosen this way could, or even would, be biased towards those who voted them into the position.
On the other hand this could be rectified by BSF2000 and the other moderators creating a list of those people they think would be suitable, then allowing anyone who is interested in voting to be allowed to do so.
Yet even this could still create problems with people swaying the votes by blackmail, bribery or some other devious means and yet once again we have returned to a moderator being corrupt against certain groups on the game.
Even though there are often topics about how corrupt the moderators are even without them being chosen by popular demand, or how useless they are, remember that they, along with all the other staff members are trying their best and we should all thank them for their time!
