Afty's Occasional Guide To Afty

An issue that has plagued the Bootleggers community will finally be solved. I've only been back on Bootleggers for two months and I've already seen people sharing my view, which I can only assume has been the view of people for a long time. It's an important issue that I'm sure many will feel is right at the heart of the community, causing problem after problem.

What is this problem? Well, have you ever noticed that the Duesenberg looks quite like an Essex? That is the issue my friend. "Not a real issue" I hear people say. Well let me break it down for you. You're hitting the GTA page, you see a red car and automatically think "YAY!" but then you realise that it's an Essex. It's massively disappointing. The issue arises when you consider that some people do hundreds of GTAs every day. Multiply this affect over days, weeks, even months and you could end up with some severely depressed players, all because they are being misled by similar images.

Well fear not. Here is an image to solve all of your woes, with the basic similarities labelled so you know what NOT to look at when you get a red car.

Everything else on the image is different. You should definitely ignore all of the labelled similarities. Don't even look at them; look at what is not labelled. The best thing you can do is not to list the things that look the same, but list the things that are different. I could do that for you, but then you simply will not learn anything. Is this image listing the similarities the best solution? I say yes!

I mean, sure, you could do something like this to the Essex:

But would that be making things too easy? Plus, it would take a highly skilled Photoshop expert to modify the colour of the Essex in order for it to appear so different. Major game changes like this take careful planning and execution. You cannot simply alter the colour of a car in Photoshop. It just isn't that easy.

Then there is the cost of making the change, paying someone to modify the image, wasting the bandwidth of uploading the new image to the server. Not to mention the fact that players often reject changes to the game, feeling that they are not as good as they have previously been. There has to be a period of readjustment for the players. Is all of this hassle worth it to change the colour of a car simply because it looks like another car?

This sounds like a lot of work to me. That's why this occasional guide is here to clearly illustrate the differences between the Duesenberg and the Essex. Study the image well and you will never feel disappointed when stealing an Essex again.

If any of the admins are reading this though and you want to solve the problem in a clear and concise way, then maybe adding new cars would soften the problem. Populate the cars that can be stolen that look similar. Create a third red car and call it a "Duessexy". People could call them 'sexy' for short. Who wouldn't want to steal a 'sexy'? Maybe even a fourth red car called the "Essenberg", like Stefan Effenberg, the retired German footballer. Unforgettable.

If you read this article and agreed with everything I said, then this quote is for you:

sat·ire
noun
1. the use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule, or the like, in exposing, denouncing, or deriding vice, folly, etc.
2. a literary composition, in verse or prose, in which human folly and vice are held up to scorn, derision, or ridicule.
