Forum Post of last Week Riverpenguin

In this week’s Forum Post of the Week we have chosen the hotly debated topic of whether or not the new Don Cuts feature is a good or bad introduction to the game. The discussion began with CrimeFightingVagina who, as you can see below, holds a rather negative view towards our latest update. For those of you that haven’t heard about the Don Cuts, they were introduced to our game last week and entitle our State and Nation Dons to a percentage of our profits from a variety of features.

Clearly this has left a few of us unhappy with the recent update, since everyone other than our State and Nation Dons are earning less of their hard earned money. One of the main criticisms is that organized crimes are on the list of features that have a percentage of profit taken away. As Aldarion put it: ‘if you decide to rob a bank with four people there is no possible way that a part of the vault ends up at another person or instance, whereas in (for example) the case of a federal bank one can at least provide a plausible explanation of how part of the money ends up at the state or nation don.’ Perhaps the intention was to have us pay our State and Nation Dons a fee to do crimes in their state, much like in the real mafia underworld, except that simply taxing our members would cause much more controversy.

From the title of the forum post, it is obviously implied that our State and Nation Dons are being wiped out in order to try and counteract the new update. The more observant Bootleggers players will however, have noticed that the cuts take place even when there are no State or Nation Dons alive and present; the money is simply taken out of the game and isn’t channelled to anybody. If this is the case, why are our State and Nation Dons being wiped out? With the new source of income flowing to them, this would leave them considerably wealthier than in the past with little to no effort. This put them in a position where they are far more powerful than they have been in the past; therefore perhaps they are being shot at to prevent them from gaining such supremacy. Whatever the reason, the new feature has in fact rendered the rank of State and Nation Don relatively pointless if it simply leads to them getting shot in a matter of hours.

Nevertheless, Aldarion does feel there is hope for this feature even if it isn’t a success right now. The update perhaps required a bit more thought before being published and what effect it would have on the game. At the moment, the update merely adds to the power that State and Nation Dons already possessed and it seems that power has exceeded what the Bootleggers community feel is acceptable. In the future we might see an update to the feature but for now, perhaps it is better for it to be removed.

What are your thoughts on the Don Cuts update since its release? Is there indeed hope for it or should the idea be scrapped altogether? Let us know your thoughts on the matter!
