We have had thousands of players through the years. Many believe that this round is nearly over. The statistics seem to agree as there are less players online every day then through the early or middle periods of the round! Yet we still have players return, old school players that used to play popping in for a quick visit in order to 'check the place out'. Why?
Well we decided to investigate what it is that brings everyone back to this game time and time again! There must be something this place does different. It can't just be fond memories otherwise those that return wouldn't stay for very long noticing that their glory days are gone. So what exactly is it?
We turned to the Facebook page for Bootleggers and had a look around at who still posts and comments. Since there are more people who like the page then we have playing the game it’s fair to assume that a lot of them are no longer players. So why do they hang around?
We quickly noticed that most of the posts were from previous players commenting on new features but complaining that major ones were not present yet. A few posters are very negative about this game, attacking Moderators on the Facebook page where everyone can see it. Yet a few people on there say, on occasion, that they are coming back. The Moderator of the page often thanks them for coming back and welcomes them gladly.
Having done some investigation around Bootleggers as well, we can definitively say that the major reason for people coming back is the community! Even though the game has changed a lot in ten years, it still has the same spirit to the game.
Some players here have known each other, and shot each other, for ten years! A bond is formed after such a long time and no matter where you go in life that bond will always remain. Coming back to play and staying is usually related to finding some old friends, or even new ones, and taking part in the game in the same way you did when you first played.
Another aspect is that many players believe a reset is coming at some point in the near future and some players who have left have heard about this. So they have come back in order to find their feet before a new round starts so that they aren't completely out of their depth!
