This week I decided to look into one of the many features Bootleggers has to offer: missions. This article looks into the perks of carrying out all 12 missions to completion as well as the drawbacks involved in doing so. I also conducted a poll in the Bootleggers’ forums to try and get some idea for how our community feels for the mission feature and we look at some of the comments and ideas raised within the topic.
Missions have been a part of bootleggers for a long time now and have seen many alterations to them over the years in terms of rewards, design and the sheer number of them. As I mentioned, I created a forum topic this week to see how our Bootleggers community feels about missions and whether they bother completing them all. With regards to the latter statement, the poll illustrated that 61% of voters had completed all the missions, or were attempting to do so. An impressive figure, but nevertheless the question remains as to why there are still a number of players who have no interest in completing all the missions.
The first reason could be the fact that to complete all the missions would take a lot of dedication and is a rather time consuming process for the player. Whilst some of our members can devote a lot of their time to this game, for others, Bootleggers is merely a part time hobby they do when they have an hour or two to themselves each day. The early missions are relatively straight forward and take much less time commitment, but by the time we’ve completed the first couple of missions, the burden becomes exponentially larger. For example, as early as mission 4 we are required to not only bust out RobertMoretti, but also recover his stolen car; the former requiring on average 30-40 attempts. On top of this, the jail time for failing each bust is 4 minutes; time which could perhaps be put to much better use completing your daily crimes and auto burglaries.
Nevertheless, with the majority of our community completing all the missions, there must be some benefits for accomplishing this feat? Fellow Bootleggers buzz writer Bran_Stark kindly collected the total profit for completing all the missions, with the figure coming out at an impressive $4,685,250; this factors in converting all bullets into money at the price provided by Louisiana bullet factory. Whilst this figure may not seem overly impressive to some, it seems that missions do indeed pay off and perhaps a few more of us should look into attempting their completion.
Perhaps missions need to become more appetising to the more casual users among us, with the earlier missions to be made less time consuming and more enjoyable. Conceivably, if the number of missions were to increase then the difficulty of the earlier ones could be made easier, thus enticing the player to continue with the mission process. One again, my fellow buzz writer Bran_Stark had an interesting suggestion about the feature, stating: ‘I wish they would vary slightly every time you do them... Make it a bit more challenging... Also that there would be different ones... Maybe there should only be 12 per player but of a pool of 24 or 30 selected randomly for each player?’ Perhaps this would solve the monotonous process of completing the same missions each time you want to rank up, although it would perhaps bring about the problem of some people being assigned a harder selection of missions than others. Another interesting suggestion in the forum topic was made by Novak, commenting that maybe there should be some weekly challenges or missions to complete. I for one think this would be a brilliant idea and would help keep the game fresh, although this would require a big effort on the part of the Elite Guard.
How do you all feel about the mission feature in its current state; is it something that needs updating or would you like it left the way it is? Would you like to see more rewards added for the missions? Or perhaps you’d rather see them become easier or more missions added to the game? However you feel, let us know in the comments section below!
