A few weeks ago a friend of mine had this idea. We talked about it and discussed it with several people but we can't decide if it was a good or bad one! So we put it to the community. A new feature implementation, a secret forum, is the idea. But what does that actually mean?
The idea is that a new forum would be created which would operate in a similar way to the Swiss bank. A player would receive a pin and a forum number. The forum number is all that is needed to access the forum and post threads. But the pin would be used to administrate the forum, kick out unwanted members and clean the page up.
But what would the benefits of this really be? Crews already have their own forum and three forums in the game are enough already right? The first thought we had was that it was perfect for a crew which had been wiped. All of the members would have signed into this private forum on Bootleggers and would then be able to confirm their identities. But we realised that was very short sighted in what it could really do.
There are a lot of underground crews out there in the world of Bootleggers and all of them have to go off site to use an external forum. I don't know about you but I am quite lazy. Whenever I have to join an external forum I do for a few days then can never remember (or be bothered) to sign in. If there was a similar service here on Bootleggers it would be much more convenient. Plus all of the underground crews could keep in touch and plan various attacks.
Another suggestion that we had was to have a nickname feature within the secret forum. When you first put in the forum number it would ask you for your nickname. The owner/leader of the forum could confirm who you are and no one else would need to know your main identity. This means it doesn't matter how many times you die as your nickname would remain constant.
The other aspect it would help with is new members joining your crew. A trial period for new members doesn't mean much at the minute since as soon as you are in the crew you can see all of the forum. Whereas an extra secret forum would give them a sense of accomplishment when they become a full member and are welcomed in as well as keeping security up.
In all honesty this idea won't happen. It is complicated to implement and would add a feature many people consider pointless. However it is a nice idea to think about and this could be expanded upon massively. What's your opinion though? Would a secret forum help you? Or be another useless feature?
