Forum Post of the Week iDaltonn

There has been a lot of talk about cheating and exploiting on Bootleggers this week. People called cheaters while they aren’t getting banned by the staff. Does this mean they have a clear conscious? Perhaps, we can’t be sure as even the staff is having difficulty finding those who don’t abide by Bootleggers Terms of Service.

This week AltrntRfag created a topic on the Game Forum called: “Botting on BL”. This topic was about him not seeing the point of the current captcha code. His literal statement was that “the whole idea of it being anti bot is retarded, it isn't and all it does is just stop normal people and make them enter pointless shit in. Start of next round you'll have the botters getting all the cash from crimes and getting a grip on the game, then you'll have everyone else just slowly criming and not getting a grip.”

Does AltrntRfag have a point here? Are the current captcha codes unable to keep cheaters at bay, resulting in a disadvantage among the community? I was thinking about this and so did the topic creator, his topic further stating the following solution to the problem: “There needs to be a mouse controlled captcha typed anti-bot, one where it isn't like the current one which is used on tons of websites so it is easily bypassed, there should be something where you have the drag your mouse through a maze or some shit, a simple maze but a bot couldn't do it.”

I like his idea of a simple maze where you will need to drag your mouse through. However, does this result in less cheaters and people able to bypass it? I am not sure, I am no programmer but I can imagine that this also isn’t the best solution for this problem. I’ve read through the topic and came across this post:

Catpcha verification reduces the amount of scripters down substantially. There are online services for cracking them either through OCR or having a human manually submit them. There's absolutely no possible way of eliminating scripters, although I think the captcha may as well be in place because I honestly don't understand why people are finding issues with them.

I think it is true that there’s no possible way of eliminating scripters if they are determined to continue to break the rules and play with this huge advantage, but the staff can’t just sit there and see it go down like this. They need to act and improve security even more the next round, by any means necessary to eliminate these threats to the general gameplay throughout the round.
