On Monday morning a post in the Game Forum asked the question “who’s the first R.Don?” Immediately everyone went to check the stats page and noticed that there was indeed one Respectable Don. At first people waited to see if the R.Don himself would come forward and post in the thread. Within minutes, players were checking the profile pages of as many Dons as possible, trying to find the elusive R.Don.
After some fruitless searching, it seemed inevitable that the R.Don had decided to hide his/her true rank from the public. This quickly led to many players half guessing and half accusing a number of players of being the R.Don.
The first suspects were Rabadino and Kauffman. Both players are known to have reset their OC timers on a regular basis. However, after some verification, it seems that they weren’t resetting their OC timers regularly enough to make it to R.Don first. Kauffman claimed that it was not him, posting "SHOW YOURSELF". Shortly afterwards, Rabadino claimed that it wasn't him either, posting "if i spent that much points to rank to R.Don i would profile it not hide it."
Another name quickly came up, that of plax, as well as a few players implying that they were the first R.Don. Players started to use tactics such as adding Dons to their friends list in order to see their true rank. This was used to prove wrong people claiming to be the R.Don.
However, after a few claims from various players on the Game Forum, we at the Buzz decided to do some investigation work as well. The hitlist feature that allows you to hitlist players anonymously requires you to pay $15,000 per rank, as well as the $20,000 charge of listing the player. Here is a table of hitlist costs:
So, to hitlist a Don for $5,000 anonymously would cost $190,000. Yet, when we tried to hitlist plax for $5,000, with $190,000 on hand: *You do not have enough money! Here is a screenshot to back it up:
When we messaged plax regarding the R.Don story, he had this to say: "I'm sure there's several people that already know who the R.Don is, actually I think I know aswell. Even so I have no plans on revealing who it is for now. I'm sure the real R.don will reveal himself when he feels like it." We pushed a little further and asked: If you were the first R.Don, would you reveal your true rank? He replied: "I don't think I would to be honest, there might be people hunting for the highest ranked people." So, despite the conclusive proof that plax is the R.Don, as shown above, he still insists on denying that it is not him.
It is worth noting that some players were unaware of being able to hide your rank from the public. If you go to your profile page, you will see four options: hear music, see pictures, hear alert message and finally, Hide specific Don rank?. Hiding your specific Don rank will make your rank appear as Don, even if you are a Respectable Don or a Legendary Don. Your true rank will only appear to players on your friends list. Hiding your Don rank does not cover State Don or Nation Don.
It also begs the question, how many people would hide their rank if they were the first to hit R.Don? Here are some thoughts from our players:
"Well, as it so happens my "Hide specific don rank" box is checked, but unfortunately I'm only a mere don. Although if I were the first of anything I'd probably be the first one to flaunt it."
~DELT
"I would hide it mate it’s for safety reasons because normally the first don, R.Don, L.Don, S.Don and N.Don die really quick in the last rounds. This round we seen to have gone past the old ways but i would still hide it just in case."
~Danny
"In the case that I was I would hide it I think, I wouldn’t spend a lot of points on resetting OC timers only to get killed by someone who feels it’s funny."
~Hornet
"I think if I ranked to R Don I'd keep it hidden, as plax has done, just due to the fact that there is a high chance I would be killed just for being the highest ranked player on the game and therefore the biggest risk."
~Poison
What would you do if you were the first to hit R.Don or even L.Don? Would you hide it or would you have it on display everyone to see?
