Being a Buzz Writer Poison

For many of you your weekly Buzz just appears, looking full and of outstanding quality every (if not most) weeks for the past 9 years of Bootleggers but a lot of work goes into it. But what exactly does a Buzz writer do, I’m going to take you through an average week, and let you know just how it works.

Firstly an overview, some of the benefits; we get our own forum hidden up in the top right hand corner of the page and a Control Panel which is kind of cool, I suppose! The forum is where we post all of our articles, bounce ideas off each other, socialise and get nagged at by me to get your articles in.We can also message BSF without being told that he’s currently busy, and as you can see from the Buzz interview we’ve had with BSF this round it does sometimes pay off.

Now down to the detail of the week:

Monday

  • Review the last issue, discuss feedback from players and think about what we can improve for next week.
  • Time to start thinking of articles, this round at the Buzz we’re all about going after the news rather than waiting for it to come to us. We get on to our sources and see what’s going on in the Bootleggers world that we can report on next week, for example this week with the confirmation of the first Respectable Don. (If you have any information that you think would make breaking news in the Buzz, give me or any writer a Bootmail. We can guarantee anonymity if you so wish!

    Tuesday

  • Those writers who write weeklies will need to start preparing them now, selecting who will be the victim of Behind The Name this week and making a start on your Occasional Guide!
  • Information gathering is the name of the game, anything that has happened will have it’s own topic in the Buzz forum by now and we’ll all be looking and asking around for any information to give to the players on a Sunday.

    Wednesday/Thursday

  • Weeklies are written, and ready to go by now, spreading the workload out for the week!
  • Articles from anything that happened early in the week are starting to be formed now, and posted and discussed on the forums.

    Friday

  • Articles are all on the forum now ready to be edited and submitted! Provided that you don’t all do something interesting later in the week, like you usually do! If you are thinking of doing that then please read my plea in last week’s issue!!

    Saturday

  • Submission day! All the articles are in and we get a final look at what the Buzz will be like when it’s e-printed tomorrow morning, this gives us a last minute chance to add articles or chase up any loose ends!

    Sunday

  • A day for rest, as the Lord intended! Sit back, relax and enjoy the glowing praise of your fellow player (unless your articles are as boring as mine!).
  • I press the shiny submit button, and your Buzz appears!

The average Buzz writer will write thousands of words a week, and have to go chasing after information that most of you don’t know, and wouldn’t know without us!

If you think you could keep up with the pace, deal with the pressures, and bring something to the team then bootmail me an application article, and it could be you with your name on the top right hand side of an article in the Buzz next week.

This is a thank you to all Buzz teams past and present, and an insight into what our weeks are like!
