Day in day out, someone always creates a topic wanting a reset, posting polls about a reset, or asking questions about a reset. We want to clear this up, once and for all.
The Elite Guard decide what they want the new round to contain feature wise, what they want to add or change for as far as features go and what they want to do differently rule wise. Not much has to change, but they do consider the aspects when planning a reset. The reasons why they do a reset can vary. In this case the round has pretty much run its course and as such resetting would, if the proper changes are made, allow for the game to blossom again in a way that is not possible in the current round. In a post on the Game Forum posted by SayaOmakM3haCancer put up a vote for a reset, Mika replied: "Resetting now would be pointless. Until the planned updates have been completed you won't be seeing a reset." When asked what updates were still to come, he replied: "Unfortunately I cannot comment on that because some of the updates that are planned have not been publicly announced yet. Most updates are already known to the public, though, such as the Crew update."
We managed to catch up with BSF2000 to ask him a couple of questions specific to the reset process. When asked what the actual process in a reset was, from pressing the reset button to opening the game back up, he replied: "Often times we've used resets as an opportunity to upgrade our servers. When this is the case, we have to setup the new servers with our configurations and then transfer over the database architecture and web files to their respective servers. Otherwise, if we are just keeping our current hardware, we simply need to empty out the current database. At that point any new settings/features that are planned for release post-reset are uploaded. Elite Guard members are then able to create their accounts and take a look around to make sure everything is functioning properly. Once we are satisfied with everything, we open the doors." We also wanted to know if there were any technical risks in doing a reset. BSF2000 responded: "Once we begin the reset process, a backup of the current game is always generated. Even with this backup and the routine daily backups, there is always an eerie feeling that comes with deleting all the current round's data from the database. But other than this strange feeling, there isn't a substantial amount of technical risk. If we happen to be upgrading our servers at the time, there is obviously a bit more involved in making sure everything is configured how we'd like and I'd say that's where a bit of technical risks come into play (relating to software compatibility). But steps are taken to avoid such issues from arising."
During the 'reset period', how do players actually feel about it? What do they like and hate the most about a new round? We took to the Game Forum to see what the community had to say. Only a small handful of players actually wanted to comment on what they liked and disliked about a reset and a new round, however, BradVx said "I like the even playing field, anyone can become extremely powerful if they play their cards right from the beginning Until points come out and people pull out the credit cards. And for a dislike, chaos mode before the reset.. Fun for the first 10 deaths then it sucks". InactiveAccount said "To be honest what i hate about a reset is when the Elite Guard offer Organised Crimes! i believe this to be stupid as everyone should start from scratch the Elite Guard are there to watch over and look after the game But what i love about a reset is yes as BradVx said it's the fresh start where everyone has a chance not that anyone doesn't now but points seem to be the way forward to getting far in this game but hey what can you do i certainly am not pulling out my credit card and giving BSF2000 my hard earned money to just to sell them for in game money."
And finally, we get on to the bit the majority seem to like when it comes to a reset, the 'Chaos period'. Just before the reset occurs, everyone's account is ranked to Legendary Don, given max bullets, cash, protection and guns, and the searches become instant. Players drop left right and center. When asking the community what they thought of the Chaos Period, KanNogGeenKutDekken said that it lets people experience features that they wouldn't normally use because it requires effort. Shinji's opinion was that it ruins the end of rounds and you can't do anything. The general response from the community is that it is fun for a short period of time, and then becomes boring and pointless quite quickly.
So, in conclusion, there is currently no date planned for a reset as there are still changes and updates to be made in the game. Resetting any time soon isn't a possibility as of yet due to some outstanding updates. A reset will not be done just because several people want one, the game needs to run it's course, which is seems like it has done, and updates need to be rolled out before the next round can begin. BSF2000 also gave his input as to the process and what risks, even though small, are involved.
