COLUMN: Points Or Hospital? Voluns5

You just failed an Organized Crime. Your health has dropped to forty percent. You have no money left but you do have one hundred points. Do you sell your points? Or cash in sixty for full health? Maybedo you do some crimes, steal some cars and earn enough money for another Organized Crime? Let's explore these different options for the best way to continue at this point!

Cashing in sixty points at this point in the round will be the same as paying $1,080,000 for your hospital fees. Conversely the fees for six hours in the hospital are only forty five thousand dollars. Much cheaper. But the downside is you lose six hours. Your crime percentages can't go above forty percent and your chances of stealing cars are low. In this situation it would be a waste of resources to cash in points.

What if you are a high ranked account with a lot of resources that is about to commit a crew wipe and were doing one Organized Crime to try and rank up? Suddenly that million dollars looks tempting! Your detectives are ready and you want to just go off and kill everyone you searched for. So you save yourself the wasted search costs and boom straight up to one hundred percent health and ready to go! But after finishing the wipe you have to wonder, were the sixty points worth wasting? Would it have made a huge difference to do the shooting six hours later and just extend all the searches? That's down to personal preference there.

But what if there was a third option? What if, for ten points, you could buy a shot of adrenaline? It would temporarily give you one hundred percent health for one hour and then afterwards you would lose ten more percent? That would make the shooting easier or committing another Organized Crime. It would also be another way to take points out of the game without costing a huge amount.

Many people would argue that you should just go into the hospital. But if you are low ranked with not many resources that extra Organized Crime might just be enough to enter the hospital and restore yourself to full health.

The shot of adrenaline option could have another use. You are in a crew and another member is shot whilst in the same state as you. What if you could spend ten points and temporarily revive that account? If they didn't enter the hospital within that hour they would still be dead. But suddenly you have the option to save a friend and, possibly, an entire crew? Such a powerful ability may need to cost more than ten points, but this could give an entire new direction to the way Bootleggers is played. Suddenly a player's life can be saved.

We could take this even further and have an option to train in first aid skills. That way players could have a chance to save their crew mates without having to use points. But only a chance. If they messed up the CPR they could not only kill their friend but cost them resources as a penalty. Or have themselves arrested for a long period of time for applying CPR incorrectly.

At the end of the day the hospital versus points debate is an easy one to answer. Nine times out of ten the hospital will always win out. But there could be so many more options in play to make this choice that little bit more difficult. To add a new dimension to the game. Remember that it's rare to lose health but it does happen and players can often be faced with a difficult choice. So have a think about other ways that life could temporarily be given to players in order to allow them to complete various actions and let us know your thoughts in the comments below! As always, good luck and happy ranking.
