The Hunger Games, a science fiction novel which is written in the voice of a 16-year-old girl. The Hunger Games are an annual event in which one boy and girl, aged 12-18, are selected by lottery to compete in a televised battle to the death. Our lovely Moderator Mika is quite a fan of The Hunger Games trilogy and therefore decided to host a Bootleggers related Hunger Games. With a prize of 5,000 points, including a crew spot we all knew it was going to be big. Very big. The event was not new, because Mika hosted it a few months ago. Because it was such a big success that time, he decided to host it again with some new element. It all started three weeks ago…
The tributes were picked three weeks ago during the registration process. All you had to do was posting in the Hunger Games topic, located on the Game Forum. The next step of this registration process was praying. All the players who registered were entered into a fancy dice game. The winners of these dice games were chosen are tributes and had the privilege to join the crew spot of the Hunger Games and fight each other to death. I beg your pardon? Well, that was the entire purpose of the Hunger Games! There could only be one winner and the rest of the players had to die.
Compared to the last game a few things got added. Players who were not participating had the ability to sponsor the tributes with money. With this fancy money the tributes were able to invest this money in valuable items which were needed to survive. In order to survive the tributes needed to use items such as: water and food. If they did not drink/eat enough, the tributes would be killed by our lovely but deadly mother nature. The need of water and food was not the only concerning part of the Hunger Games. In order to win the Hunger Games every tribute needed a strategy. Words like trust and friendship were nowhere to be found during the Hunger Games.
After an astonishing week the crew spot only contained three alive players; the host, the news reporter and the winner of the Hunger Games. With a clever tactic one player was able to survive and kill the last standing players. Fortunately this player named, Sabiechantress, had some time for the Bootleggers Buzz to elaborate his amazing achievement. We asked our winner if he had any strategy in order to win the Hunger Games. He replied: ‘‘Well, at first it was by luck because I thought I would definitely die of thirst and hunger, I also was shot at the beginning of the round. Luckily I survived that round. But on the last day, we were all given bullets, I used that to my advantage and shot two people.’’ Shot at the begging of the round? Well according to Sabiechantress, he was shot by HansBrix which resulted in a loss of 30% of his health. However, a few bullet wounds did not stop Sabiechantress. On the last day Sabiechantress made an agreement with his rival, HansBrix. They made an agreement that they would both shoot one of the few remaining tributes; Tibbs. Unfortunately for HansBrix, Tibbs was clever was able to kill HansBrix. Since Sabiechantress had Tibbs on search, the contest was over soon. The only thing Sabiechantress had to do was killing Tibbs. For those who are wondering, Sabiechantress was not able to kill HansBrix earlier because he did not have enough bullets. Finally we asked our winner his overall opinion of the game. He stated: ‘‘Overall? Yeah, I pretty much liked it. Although, much effort should have been given to the games. But it was alright. Mika alone was not enough to host the games properly. It would have been way better, if all the mods organized the games together.‘‘
That leaves us with a word with the great brain behind this amazing contest; Mika. We asked him if he enjoyed the hosting of the Hunger Games. He replied: ‘‘The answer to that question is a bit mixed, to be honest. I had a fun time hosting the game, but I am not satisfied with how everything went in the end. I had expected to have more time available during the games than I had, which resulted in long wait time for the participants and a game that took place at a slower pace than I had hoped.’’ An honest answer, and realistic as real life always comes first. Next we asked Mika to give more information regarding the sponsor part. If a tribute had a rich friend, he/she had definitely a big advantage. Was this done on purpose or a small mistake by the host? According to Mika the influence of friends part of the games. ‘‘Be liked by the right people and you will have a bigger chance of surviving.’’ Finally, Mika wanted to thank everyone who participated and promised that there will certainly be new games in the future. He is looking to spice them up and automate a lot of what took manual doing this time around.
Whether you liked it or not, this event was spectacular and it was a pleasure to report about this amazing event. On behalf of the entire Buzz Team I’d like to congratulate the winner, Sabiechantress, and thank the host, Mika, for hosting such an incredible game. We are definitely looking forward to the next event and we as always the Buzz will be there to report about it! Maybe, you have the chance of participating in the next event? Well, may the odds be ever in your favor.
