Bootleggers - The First Day as a Newcomer blflag

11th July, 2015 was my first day here in this BL world. Prior to creating an account, it was going to be my first 'RPG text-based game playing' after a long 6yrs of absence on this playing scene. I blame my work for that in a sense, as when you embark in some serious life stuffs and work life, free time becomes by itself a scarce thing. But right now, I'm in a phase where I feel I need this online RPG excitement again!

The Sad Truth

I heard about BL on some other online communities I keep in touch with. I head over here and I created my account. I spent my first couple of hours reading along the FAQ, guides and read a bit around the forum. I like to document myself when something is new to me. I had 10 times attempt on those petty crimes and all of them failed miserably. I saw OCs, was excited about it until I feel the sad truth that nobody is willing to take a scum in their OC. Not just that, things are more difficult because as a new comer, I have only $500 cash on hand!

Posting In Forum IS Helpful

Everything was expensive. Most players on 'classifieds' replied to me "If you have a duesy you are in, else you are out". That luxurious car (?), the duesy like they call it, was alas way too expensive - that's crazy! How I am going to do? I was about to close my browser, when I thought about making a thread and see how people reacts. May be they have advice that can help me. I like to push myself to the extreme before I quit something. And it turned out to be a good step!

The Helpers & The Naysayers

I made a thread on the 'Game Forum', named: "Why this game so hard for starters?". The replies I got was divided into two types of people: one type who seems to be more concerned with the players and helping them, while the second one tends to be more defensive and reluctant in hearing others.

While I understand that there could be a lot of fake people around, I think you should not jump into conclusions so fast. I'm a quick learner and since I'm in the Web world, everything tends to become more meaningful quickly.

You Form Part Of An Amazing Community

This game, Bootleggers, is fortunately made up of a good group of people. The simple proof is that so many of you have helped me, given me some cash and even cars. Someone else even proposed to get me in his OC. I was too slow and he completed his OC. But to compensate, he asked his crew mate to have me in his OC. WOW!! Amazing! This is beyond goodness, this game despite the nature of it, is made up of people with sound human values. Dear players, dear helpers, dear well-wishers, dear Game Admin, Mods, Writers you are all AWESOME people. You all rock in your own way.

Life is short, live it! Life is too complex to complicate it further, simplify it whenever you can. Take time to breath, take time to smile, take time to help someone (not just in the game).

Playing Alone Is Being Selfish With Yourself

So far, I have been getting good advice and I have also been in a way lucky to have got a hand from so many wonderful people. I'm now already at Hitman level in only less than full 72hrs of play (cumulative) and I just completed Mission 7 and with 90 petty crimes. I'm also finding myself addicted to it, I'm spending more of my online time here since the last 3 days. Life in BL is good if you have people around who are cooperative, friendly and willing to progress. I can't imagine playing alone in my corner. Just ranking up on the other side of the screen, being a stranger makes me no happy. Come on, how can you play like this?! Step up or Step forward, say hello, make a friend, contribute - the fun is greater if it is shared and played within groups.

I end with this quote:
"Friendship is not a gift, it's an opportunity to show that you are better in yourself".
