Having played this game, off and on, for over 10 years I find myself asking the same question... for a mafia based game are we all not missing the real update that this game requires?
It only takes a glance at the forums to see player screaming for updates to many feature, including blackjack, missions and even the forums themselves. Everyone has their opinion that these sort of feature updates will help to bring more players to the BL community.
However, i disagree. I believe BL needs to go back to its core and update one key area of the game: Crews. Back when BL had nearly 300-500 players online there were many crews that literally fought for months on end: The order, Event Horizon, Death Valley, Winter Hill Gang just to name a few. Its no coincidence that since these crews now seem to be no more on BL that the amount of players has dropped with it. It no longer seems to carry the same fun or satisfaction value for players to be involved in things like this otherwise why would so many leave?
My solution is simple. BSF should hire a small group of people to research how mafia crews in real life actually fought with each other: Invading territories, monopolising territories, full blown wars across the country that even harmed innocent people.
An update to the crew feature could be the spark the game needs to make the game exciting once again and draw back those players.
