This weekend saw the (rare) failure of a community challenge. The task was simple enough; VooDooDoll had been up to her usual tricks and landed herself in jail.
The community had 15 hours to make 22,500 bust attempts and get her out of there.
To qualify for the prize individually, players had to make 100 busts attempts.
There has been quite a lot of uproar from the players. Some claim the task was impossible, others believe those who participated should get a prize regardless.
With a little help from Mika, I have the final statistics of the event.
The Challenge failed, closing at 19,029/22,500 busts.
If everyone did the minimum, only 225 players were required to complete the challenge. 526 were active during the event.
272 players took part in the Challenge.
Only 120 of the players participating completed 100 busts or more.
These 120 players completed 15,936 of the total busts (~133 per person).
The remaining 152 totalled 3,093 busts (~20 per person).
Put another way, 44% of the participants, did 84% of the work.
For an even clearer perspective: 23% of the players active during the event did 84% of the Challenge on their own.
The main reason things seemed to go off track is down to the bust parties that started midway through, although this is purely speculative as the bust rate could have slowed down regardless.
At the end of the day, a Community Challenge shouldn’t be easy and it should require teamwork. Something went wrong this time. Did we let ourselves down? Or was the target just a little too far out of reach?
