Beggar these friends… sheesh

I recently re-joined the world of Bootleggers after an extended absence due to high demands from my job and social life. People do actually like to see me in real life you know. When I came back, the first thing I noticed was that there were only 6 out of 15 crew spots taken. This seemed to me an abnormality as I was used to seeing them full and vibrant and angry at everyone.

The next abysmal thing I noticed was that the forums were moving at a snail’s pace. A topic remained on top for a whole day with barely anyone commenting or “trolling”.
Did this bother me? To be honest, I like the game play on Bootleggers. I like setting personal goals and trying to attain them. Surely, I miss all of my friends who have gone to a place “which shall not be named”, but I was interested in seeing what the real deal was, and I could start by playing quietly in the background while my work did itself on another screen.

I was not participating in any organized crimes because I was a scum, and I had less than $500.00 to my name. I was happily muddling along, clicking the appropriate buttons, gathering my dollars here and there. I decided I would read the Buzz, now I had always read the Buzz sporadically and always wanted to partake in the different contests but never really could answer the questions as they were seriously game related. To be honest I never paid much attention to who shot who in 2005. This time however, I looked at the question and thought I would take a chance on the answer. Lo and behold I got it right and received 2.5mil.
Now at this stage, I was a week into playing the game, I had maybe 10k to my name, and I was frankly getting a little bored with the repetition and lack of organized criming. Winning the money however opened up some doors for me. I COULD ACTUALLY OC!!! I was excited, I felt like a kid on Christmas morning who just received a Red Rider BB gun! A guy messaged me responding to my OC ad in the classifieds. His first language wasn’t English, although he claimed to be American. That’s fine, I don’t care where people are from; we can all play together. He wanted some money to start an OC; he didn’t have any money he said. Fine, I sent him R33333 to start up the oc. After which, he claimed that he didn’t realize that he still had 45 minutes on his clock. Fine, I hadn’t OC'd yet, I knew I would be online for an extended period. Then he started name dropping, the don and the admin he had lined up, all of these “important” people were his friends. Now, I’m not easily swayed to be in awe of people who play a game and succeed at it. It’s a matter of luck and suave perseverance but I do believe that anyone can be successful at this type of game if you enjoy it.
So while chatting with this individual, he’s asking me about my protection, my gun, how much money I had exactly. I evaded these questions as these are MY things. We all know it is not wise to advertise our dead bolts and our high standards. He also requested that I send him some money because he wanted to gamble and he would make us both rich. At this point, I’m thinking that this guy is way too out there, but I had received free money basically for a moment of being clever. So I gave the guy $300,000. Think that’s enough of a gambling loan? He thanked me, offered more friendship; he said we’d be great friends. Oh joy.
He lost this money, and then asked for just another $300,000. Meanwhile, back in the OC which still hadn’t taken place I was waiting patiently and feeling like this was not the start of a beautiful relationship.
He asked again, and again, and again. 5 messages in under 3 minutes, I hadn’t even had time to formulate a response. I said to him that after the OC I would give him another 300k because at this point I thought he’d just take the money and run and I still would not have an organized crime under my belt. So I said, maybe after the OC I’ll give you ANOTHER 300k.
The OC happened, it wasn’t full of dons, but there was an administrator involved who probably has the experience of a thug. I’m not complaining, I did an OC! I was also gambling at this time and I had lost a lot of my money. I was down to just 313K on hand monies.
I didn’t send him another 300k. I told him it was my money and I decided to gamble and lost it. He continued to pester me. I believe he looked at my wealth status and made requests for any amount he was sure I would have. He kept throwing the “but we’re friends” “but I will pay you back YOU know I will”.
Eventually, he threatened to have me killed. He was very cross and put out that I wasn’t going to be his personal forevermore bank account. I pointed out that I was clearly not rich, and had not received any of the money he promised to pay back. He didn’t really find this to be a good point though.
So are we buddies? Not so much…
Will I give money to people who say they want to be friends first again? Not so much…
I enjoy the Buzz, I enjoy having a quiet BL life, I really enjoy it, I do. But this kid pissed in my cornflakes and I urge you to remember that if people want your money and all of your info, they are most likely not just messaging for good times and wacky prison pursuits.
But you already knew that didn’t you?
