Issue: 76   Editor: Aldarion

Green Aldarion MissVanish

It takes a lot of discipline and responsibility to reach a job like Help Desk Operator. But to be given the opportunity to function as a Moderator, that’s a whole other level of responsibility. This sounds scary, but it didn’t stop Aldarion from accepting the chance that was given to him last week. Aldarion, who we all first knew as the Buzz head Editor, became a HDO in February 2011. A job that he did very well. A little more than four months later, which is not so long as HDO, he accepted the job as Moderator.

I speak for a lot of people when I say that his promotion came a little expected. Aldarion was one the most active players as HDO. Every week he organized the weekend-giveaways, and together with Mika he also organised some other games such as dice games, Russian Roulettes, casino giveaways and many more.

On the other hand, it was a little unexpected. As Aldarion says himself, the promotion came very quick. “I didn’t expect the promotion, considering I had only been promoted to HDO in February”, he said. Aldarion showed Bootleggers some nice initiatives, but when I asked him if the Weekend- and other giveaways were part of the reason that he got promoted, he disagreed. “I don't think so. I highly doubt the Elite Guard are looking for someone to give away everything they have. No, in all seriousness, I think my job as a HDO was the most important reason, rather than being able to give away money.” Although that last dice game might have done the trick, in my opinion.

This promotion came with a lot of benefits, but it had some downsides too. One of those downsides was that Aldarion had to give up his life as a ‘normal player’ of Bootleggers. The choice between getting your name in the green or getting yourself killed every week is a difficult choice. Although, that’s what we all expect. But Aldarion made this decision very quickly, as if it was not difficult at all to make this giant step.

“I accepted it right away. Quite a surprise I should say, as until about a year ago I was absolutely a hundred percent sure I'd never accept the offer to become a moderator as it seemed boring and the game is still enjoyable as a player. However, after having been promoted to HDO, my view on this slightly changed so the decision turned out to be pretty easy in the end. The promotion to HDO probably made me change my mind. I always liked sounding my voice through columns and kinda saw these columns as 'the voice of reason'. I couldn't imagine that I ever wanted to view this game from a whole different point, but that changed in the last few months. I no longer had the resistance against not being able to play as I always did. My guess is that getting back from moderator to a normal player is a lot harder!” He will miss being killed every week, though.

As said earlier, being a Moderator requires a lot of responsibility. It is very difficult to combine with something like buzz editor, so we asked Aldarion what would happen to his function as Buzz Head Editor. As expected, he would continue his job as Head Editor, for now. In time, he will be looking for a worthy successor of this function, just like the other editors did when they got promoted. So, for everyone, now is the time to apply for buzz writer.

“I'd like to thank BSF for giving me the opportunity. I also want to thank Riserva and Mika for helping me figuring out how everything works!”

Last but not least, I think I speak for everyone when I say : Congratulations Aldarion, you deserve it!
